The ESADE Admission Test: Complete Guide (2026/27)
The ESADE Admission Test is ESADE Business School's own entrance exam — one of the routes into its bachelor programs in Barcelona, including the flagship BBA. This guide covers what the test is, how it's structured and scored, and where it fits in ESADE's wider, holistic review, based on ESADE's official admissions information.

What the test is
The ESADE Admission Test is a 3-hour multiple-choice test, taken in English or Spanish depending on the programme you apply to. It's designed to assess reasoning ability rather than memorised knowledge, which means the content isn't beyond a strong secondary-school student — the challenge is speed, precision and consistency under time.
It's one of three accepted ways to satisfy ESADE's selection-test requirement. The others are the SAT and the ACT. The ESADE test is the natural choice if you haven't taken (and don't plan to take) the SAT or ACT.
The sections — and which ones you sit
ESADE publishes the breakdown, and it isn't the same for every programme. Three reasoning sections plus an English level test, but which three depends on the degree you apply to.
Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
- Sufficiency of information — 30 minutes. Interpreting texts, categorising information, and telling the main ideas from the supporting ones well enough to draw the right conclusion.
- Numerical analysis — 35 minutes. Operating with numbers and figures, and picking the correct result quickly and precisely.
- Logical reasoning — 35 minutes. Identifying the logical criteria behind sequences.
- English level test — 90 minutes. One essay plus a multiple-choice section.
Bachelor in Law
- Sufficiency of information — 30 minutes.
- Logical reasoning — 35 minutes.
- Verbal ability — 35 minutes. Understanding and critically evaluating written information, then extrapolating it to spoken language. (This replaces Numerical analysis.)
- English level test — 90 minutes.
Look at the arithmetic of that: the English level test is 90 of the test's 180 minutes. Half of what ESADE is measuring is your English, not your reasoning — which is worth knowing before you spend all your preparation on numerical practice.
Section names and timings above are as published by ESADE. A further variant applies to the Double Degree in Law + Global Governance, Economics & Legal Order — check ESADE's admissions pages for that one. ESADE does not publish the number of questions in any section.
How it's scored: negative marking
This is the part that changes your strategy: on the ESADE Admission Test, points are deducted for wrong answers. (A separate English level test — one essay plus a multiple-choice section — does not deduct points.)

ESADE is a private university with no minimum entry grades — admission is holistic. Alongside the test, ESADE weighs:
- your academic record (rigour and progression, not just GPA),
- a motivation essay (often the differentiator),
- a ~30-minute interview (in person in Barcelona or by video), and
- English proficiency (e.g. TOEFL iBT 90+, IELTS 6.5+, Cambridge B2 First).
A strong test result can lift a borderline academic profile — and it's the part of the application you can most improve between now and your round.
Rounds: apply early
ESADE admits in rounds — Early Decision, Round 1 and later rounds — across roughly October to June, or until places fill. Earlier rounds have more spots, and most scholarships go to Early Decision and Round 1 applicants. If you're ready, applying early is the stronger move.
How to prepare
- Practise the reasoning, under time. The test rewards speed and precision, which come from repeated timed practice — not cramming content.
- Target numerical and logical first — they differentiate applicants most.
- Respect the negative marking. Build accuracy and an eliminate-then-answer habit.
- Don't neglect the essay and interview. They carry real weight in a holistic review.
